It's June 1st at 1:30pm in Dallas, Texas and summer has arrived. I've got one hour at home alone before I dash off to pick up kids and do the Mommy-thing for a while! I am sitting by the pool working on my tan, while I work on my business. It's true, I am writing this article, responding to email, doing some research for a new project and on and on. I am ready for summer, ready for my kids to be out of school, ready for our schedules to relax and soften a bit.

This doesn't mean I won't be busy, crazy busy! I love being busy (drives my husband crazy.) I have my hands and my creative imagination in multiple projects at any given time. It's what feeds me and keeps me going, it fills my soul and I work hard to make sure there is time and energy left for kids and husband. I learned that lesson the hard way. I had my priorities all mixed up for a few years. My husband and I are both work-aholics, no doubt about it. But I am learning to be a life-aholic, addicted to the joy of living, creativity and building new things.

So, I am working from my backyard today, soaking up the heat and the fresh air, the birds and the blessed quiet while no one else is home. I realized sitting here today that I am creating the life that I want to live. I have a successful business that I love, I still pick up my kids from school every day and I make time to play. I have shifted my business to be 100% virtual this year - no office, no overhead, no stress. I still have an awesome support team that I can't live without, we just don't sit next to each other all day long.

This summer I am putting my virtual business and long-distance life to the test! I will spend three weeks in Colorado and three weeks in Canada, working from wherever I am. My kids will not be in daycare or camps 9 to 5 all day. They will be playing, hiking, swimming, hanging out and generally being around, relaxed, stress-free and with me! They will get the benefit of traveling to see cousins and grandparents, I will get the benefit of working part-time and playing with them more than I do during the school year.

In my downtime, I will continue to work on my business plan and use down time for creative brainstorming while I design my life and my business to suit me. I will run my empire from the comfort of my backyard or beside the ocean. It's possible, if you are patient, creative and willing to look at life differently, take a few chances and embrace change!

I have owned my own business for 9 years, this journey has been all about the process, discovering what I wanted and who I am as a leader and entrepreneur. It has not always been pretty, easy or profitable but I am getting there. If you want to have the freedom and flexibility and the excitment of designing your life and your business on your terms, you need to join us for the 2nd Annual Snap Out of It! Conference in Dallas.
